Description

The CliniFLO flow incentive spirometer from Portex is an advanced respiratory rehabilitation tool, designed to boost patients’ lung capacity through an approach based on the inhaled airflow. Flow incentive devices activate the accessory muscles of respiration and encourage rapid inspiration with low tidal volume. This device is especially valuable for patients who have undergone thoracic, abdominal or cardiac surgery and those suffering from chronic respiratory disorders or who require support to foster lung expansion.

Unlike volumetric spirometers, which measure the total volume of air inhaled, the CliniFLO from Portex focuses on encouraging the generation of an adequate air flow to foster the restoration of effective ventilation.

The device has an ergonomic design, with a robust handle to hold the spirometer during therapy and a hook to hang it up afterwards. On the right it has a dial for setting flows from 100 ml/sec to 600 ml/sec. As it has such a wide range of flows, it is ideal for both adult and paediatric patients. It also has a mouthpiece and a corrugated tube through which to breathe. It is completely transparent, allowing the patient to see the inhaled airflow in real time. This is essential to motivate patients, as they can follow their progress and set achievable targets.

It also has a port for connecting supplementary oxygen for those who need adequate oxygen support during therapy.
